The north and northwest suburbs of Chicago is not generally perceived as an area that would have a large population of families struggling with homelessness and domestic violence, but the reality is that WINGS receives over 1,000 calls each year for assistance.  Women and children in this area face tremendous obstacles. The cost for housing and child-care is very high, and there are few resources available to assist those in need.

• WINGS operates 4 shared living homes and 21 apartments
  in Chicago, Chicago’s north and northwest suburban Cook County and portions of Lake County in Barrington.

• WINGS’ 15,000 square foot Safe House served 90 women and 116 children (206 total) with 7,706 nights of shelter
  in 2006/2007.

• Transitional served 46 women and 75 children (121 total) with 25,200 nights of shelter and supportive services.

• Total nights of shelter for 327 women and children was 32,906.
