The Barrington Survivors Program provides comprehensive domestic violence services to Barrington/School District 220 residents: counseling, hotel stays, transportation, training to medical professionals and updates to the Barrington Transitional home.
In 2020, over twenty calls to the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline were from the 60010-zip code. The actual number is likely higher due to those who don’t give their address.
Barrington Survivors Program – Critical and Comprehensive Resources
Created with assistance from the Barrington Area Community Foundation, Barrington Survivors Program provides survivors from Barrington or School District 220 contacting the 24-Hour Crisis Line or WINGS counseling line with needed resources ranging from:
- Domestic Violence or Intimate Partner Violence Counseling,
- Emergency housing through a hotel-based model, including needed meals and supplies for domestic violence survivors,
- Transportation assistance to flee a dangerous situation, attend job interviews, arrive to benefits appointments or address health concerns.
Maintaining a Transitional Home
Support will also be utilized for projects that arise at WINGS Barrington Transitional home. As a result of being provided with a well-maintained home for families who have suffered the trauma of domestic violence, the concept that they are worthy of a non-abusive home is reinforced.
