Impact on WINGS Safe House Survivors

Nancy H, WINGS Resale Store Manager – Arlington Heights, Niles, shares:

“On many occasions, families arrive at our safe homes with just the clothes on their back.”  

A detailed request from the safehouse is sent directly to the resale store. Staff and volunteers will quickly fill the order consisting of clothing and footwear. The request is filled in within a few hours and delivered to the safehouse by WINGS personnel.”

Impact on WINGS Housing Program Survivors

In addition to assisting survivors at the Safe Houses, families moving into transitional housing programs receive furniture, housewares, and accessories. Clients select these items directly at the resale stores. 

David Kahan, WINGS Chief Operating Officer shares, “I remember two families arrived at our Schaumburg Resale store on the same day to furnish their transitional apartments. One family was moving into an apartment in Evanston and the other was moving into an apartment in Palatine.

Within two hours, these two clients selected a combined total of 17 pieces of furniture (tables, chairs, couches, love seats, dressers, nightstands, and desks) and 10 boxes of housewares and accessories. All items were delivered to the clients by WINGS Transportation team the very next day.

This feat is possible due to the coordination between WINGS Program staff, Resale Stores, and our Transportation Team.”
