Did You Know?
Every minute, an average of 20 people are being physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.
These are more than statistics; they are fathers, mothers, siblings, and friends. Everyone knows someone.
One of these mothers is Ximena*.
She shares,
“After marriage, things went downhill quickly. What started out as verbal abuse turned physical. One night, things went horribly wrong…That was the turning point for me. I was frightened and desperate and running out of time.”
WINGS assisted Ximena with shelter, clothing, diapers, meals, and guidance. She shares,
“Within a month, WINGS helped me move into a furnished apartment and find a job nearby.
Now, I rent my own apartment. My children are safe and healthy. I have an amazing job at a company that offers cancer screenings.
I arrived a broken person, but WINGS helped me to forgive myself, find my own value, and build on strengths I didn’t even know I had.”
Making an Impact
Last year, WINGS served 1,221 survivors and provided nearly 107,024 nights of shelter and safe housing. By joining other supporters with a donation today, you can be a part of their transformative journey.
Did You Know?
A leading cause of death among pregnant women in the US is homicide by an intimate partner.
It’s a chilling statistic, but there is hope thanks to supporters like you.
Michelle found refuge with WINGS at 8 months pregnant. She was determined to create a better future.
Now, as an alderwoman and a proud mother, Michelle is a beacon of hope, proving that with the right support, new beginnings are possible.
Making an Impact
Like Michelle, 90% of our Safe House clients leave feeling empowered and informed about community resources.
WINGS provides housing, counseling, mentoring, and essential support that survivors of domestic violence desperately need.
Your donation today will ensure this vital work continues. Please, make a difference and join others in supporting WINGS Program, Inc.
Did You Know?
Survivors of domestic violence have 3 times the risk of developing a major depressive disorder.
One survivor prioritizing her mental health is Miranda*.
She was involved in a very dangerous and abusive marriage.
Of WINGS counseling services, Miranda shares:
“…Since starting the program, I have learned so much about self-care, different types of abuse, and warning signs to watch out for…
I have made progress due to my amazing therapist, who I look forward to seeing each week. I know I still have a long way to go, and with her help, I know I will achieve the goals we have set out.
I can’t begin to say thank you enough to all the great people at WINGS.”
Did You Know?
One study found 99% of all domestic violence survivors were involved in some form of financial abuse.
Imagine breaking free from your abuser, only to face the daunting challenge of financial instability.
At WINGS, we’ve seen firsthand how financial abuse traps individuals in cycles of violence and dependency. But there’s hope.
Take Samantha*, for instance.
After 8 months in our Transitional Housing program, she transitioned from juggling three jobs to securing her dream career. This is the reality we strive for at WINGS – a world where survivors like Samantha confidently declare, “It’s like anything is possible.”
Making an Impact
Your generous support has been pivotal. Because of supporters like you, of WINGS Safe House clients completing an exit survey:
- 95% reported not returning to their abusers, and
- 74% reported improved financial stability.
Did You Know?
1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence.
These young eyes see more than they should, and the impact is deeper than we can imagine.
For example, one child’s drawings were always haunted by monsters. Through working with his Children’s Advocate at WINGS, this child found comfort and began to heal.
Now he no longer sketches scary figures.
This is what your support can do – it can remove the monsters from the forethoughts of a child’s mind.
Making an Impact
This child is not the only one. Last year 96% of the speaking-aged children served by WINGS could identify two things they can do to feel safe.
