WINGS Receives 2020 Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar

  • Posted by Sarah Swiston

  • BBB, Charity Navigator, chicago metropolitan area, Chicago suburbs, Domestic Violence, domestic violence organization, DV agency, Guidestar, non-profit, WINGS, WINGS Program

For the second year in a row, WINGS recently earned the 2020 Platinum Seal of Transparency. This is the highest level of recognition offered by GuideStar, a service of Candid. Learn more about this honor, other recognitions WINGS has received and, if you are planning to donate, information about making 2020 charitable deductions.

GuideStar’s Platinum Seal of Transparency

By sharing metrics that highlight progress WINGS is making toward its mission, the organization is helping donors move beyond simplistic ways of nonprofit evaluation such as overhead ratios.

To reach the Platinum level, WINGS added extensive information to its Nonprofit Profile on GuideStar. This information includes:

  • High-level agency overview,
  • In-depth financial reporting,
  • Qualitative data about goals, strategies, and capabilities,
  • Quantitative information about results and progress toward WINGS mission to end domestic violence.

By taking the time to provide this information, WINGS has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and providing meaningful data to evaluate the agency’s performance.

“WINGS has always believed in the importance of transparency,” said Denise M Urban, CPA CFE – WINGS Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

“By updating our GuideStar Nonprofit Profile to the Platinum level, we can now easily share a wealth of up-to-date organizational metrics with GuideStar’s immense online audience, which includes donors and grant-makers.”

Denise adds, “I encourage you to visit our profile on GuideStar to see the impact we are having on our community as a result of our many dedicated supporters.”

An Award-Winning Agency

In addition to this recognition, WINGS has received four consecutive, Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator, one of the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluators of non-profit organizations. This coveted designation from America’s leading charity evaluator reflects the highest levels of accountability, transparency and financial strength.

In the award letter, Charity Navigator’s President & CEO says, “Only 20% of the charities we evaluate have received at least four consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that WINGS Program, Inc. outperforms most other charities in America”.

Additionally, WINGS is an Accredited Charity by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), meeting all 20 of BBB Standards for Charity Accountability since 2012.

Are You Planning Your Year-End Giving?

The CARES Act permits individuals who do not itemize donations to deduct $300 of qualified charitable contributions as an “above-the-line” deduction for 2020. Check with your tax advisor for eligibility and more information.
